Maxis Creates Houses Based on Old Soviet Fairy Tales
No, I’m not kidding you. I was playing The Sims yesterday and when I was messing with the camera mode (TAB), I found something interesting. There’s a hidden house on the other side of Belladonna Cove and it’s hard to find it without the camera mode, but with a little trying, you’ll be able to enter the lot.
Anyway, are you asking what old soviet fairy tale I mean? It’s called Morozko (aka Jack Frost, filmed in 1964) and I know it quite well because it’s a fairy tale of my childhood. It’s always broadcasted on Christmas. Don’t ask me if people are not yet tired of it, I haven’t seen it for a while.
In the story, I think there was a which. And this witch lived in a house on with hen’s legs (the spiral stairs and terrain create the illusion of legs in the game). As funny as it sounds, Maxis has included a similar house in Belladonna Cove. Still don’t believe me? Watch this video on YouTube (1:01).
The question is: who from EA Games watches soviet fairy tales?

Larissa: You’re welcome, I’m glad S4S is helpful to you!
Alec: You have to move around with the camera in different angles. It might be a little difficult but I’m sure you’ll be able to access the lot with a little trying.

The video on YouTube reminds me a lot of Little Otik. Both of which can hardly be classified as fairy tales. For anybody interested, Little Otik is about a couple who couldn’t have children. The father found a log which looked like a baby and so the mother got attached to it. When it grew up it started eating people. It’s quite gruesome and never really ends. Have you heard of that Hannah?

No, I haven’t really seen it, but the name seems a bit familiar to me. I’ll try to take a look at it.

I was born and raised in the US, and in kindergarden (in the 80′s) we were told all sorts of foreign fairy tails – including the one with Baba Yaga and her hut on chicken feet.
I’m not surprised at all that The Sims dev team would sneak in a neat lot like that! I’m just curious as to why they chose that house in particular, and if they snuck any other fun things in the game like that!
Good eye!

…come to think of it, you said the hut is in Belladonna Cove? Isn’t that neighborhood the one that came with the Sims 2 expansion that brought us witches?
A-hah! Now we know where they come from!

I never knew that Americans would be taught about Baba Yaga, haha! That’s just way too funny. Thanks for the info, it makes it much clearer.

Wasn’t it the house of Babayaga?
By Aditya Pradipta on 04.20.09 09:23
Yes, it was Babayaga’s house.

Hi! Wow, I didn’t know that before…
Can you tell us, how we can enter this house? ‘Cause it doesn’t work D:
I tryed it many times, but I never entered this lot yet.
Greetings from Germany

I don’t know why, but this house is really disturbing to me… It almost seems like it’s alive. Very dark and masculine with only 2 windows. The creepiest part is that there are chicken “tracks” behind the house like it walks about. I really like this house though, even if it creeps me out. ^____^ I totally agree though, it’s definitely Baba Yaga’s hut. :3
