Yes, my dear fellow Simmers, The Sims games has been around for 12 years now and I’m happy and proud to say I’ve been surrounded by the game since the first moment they hit the shelves. The time flies so fast and it’s really hard to believe that I’ve been playing this game for more than half of my life now. In fact, it’s a little depressing… Anyways, I’ll leave you with this cute iconography–just click the picture to enlarge.

Yes, it’s that time of year when I’m asking for your help. In fact, I haven’t asked for it in the past one and half year. I thought I would take the bills in my hands and just not bother anyone. Unfortunately, things are no longer the same and I need to pay the bills for Spring4Sims’ hosting and domain.

As much as I don’t like it, I’ve decided to start a donation drive for year 2012. The bed news is I need to pay $121.00 for hosting and domain. The good news is that a one year payment is cheaper than monthly fees ($9.59 / month + $11.99 domain). Asking for money has never been my thing and I hope my readers know that I would not compromise the donations for my personal expenses. (I have no proof, just a solid conscience.)

If you’d like to donate, you can use the Donate button in the left sidebar. However, I encourage you not to donate more than $10.00. Why? Simply because I don’t see the reason why anyone should pay a big sum of money as long as more people can donate smaller amounts.

Do your Sims do this too?

Holly Alto (now Jacquet): “OMG, a head of garlic. Like my husband likes to say: c’est très magnifique! I’m so going to eat it right now!”

And that stare on her face. My Sims never fail to amaze me.

So, apparently some folks have become full of the glitches in The Sims 3 and have decided to boycott the game. They won’t buy any expansion packs or stuff packs, they won’t support the game in any way and they want EA Games to act–now! They also encourage others to write a few nice words to EA Games about how their games are full of crap.

Honestly, I get the point but it seems somewhat meaningless to me. Don’t get me wrong, I get a lot of bugs, too, but I don’t think that this kind of attitude will change something–if anything–for better.

As for me, I’m not joining. Are you?

I’m so proud of the new bedroom I’ve made for Wolff’s. Well, it’s not really new–I was redecorating their house quite a few weeks ago, but it finally doesn’t look empty. I was inspired by Morgana’s adventures in Egypt. That’s why I used objects such as the pushable statue, big palm tree, maps on the wall and the Eyes of Horus. Some objects truly accentuate the Wolff’s luxury lifestyle. Pearls, emerald cut pink diamond and the bottle of champagne are there to show their wealth.

The walls are painted in moss shade of green which makes the room appear a lot smaller or perhaps a lot cozier. In this case it’s a good thing, because the bedroom is very large. Sofa and curtains tone down some of the more colorful decorations. They also create the perfect balance between the dark furniture and walls.

I also didn’t forget about their closet. It works more as a decoration than a fully functional wardrobe, but it’s accessible from the small hall which leads to the bedroom.

Last but not least, Morgana’s bathroom is now decorated with a touch of truly feminine style. I added the Genie’s lamp (even though it’s more Arabian than Egyptian, I know), another big pink diamond and nice lotus flower.

Yesterday I had so much free time (yes, that was sarcasm) that I’ve decided it was the right time to make the categories on the blog a little more organized. Yes, I hate when things are messy and the categories an Spring4Sims were far behind this state, so some has been merged, some renamed and some were deleted or added.

I’m sure you’ll like the new categories Pet Essentials, Cars & Transportation and Study Rooms & Hobbies. All these were previously all in one category and I think it didn’t make much sense. I also created a category Bugs & Solutions, just to make it easier to find fixes for our messed games. There are a few more, but I don’t think it’s necessary to name them all.

I still wish the left column with categories was organized in tree instead of alphabetically. It would make much more sense, but I can’t do much about right now… Also, in case you find any typo in the names of the categories, please, let me know.

In this case, I think the “original” mustard and ketchup holder from The Sims 2 Nightlife is on the left. The new version is from 50′s Set from The Sims 3 Store. It looks smoother and I think it’s also recolorable. So in this case, the new one wins.

Otherwise, I’m quite busy. I’m working hard on my novel almost every day and write on my other blogs. Recently there’s so much new custom content for The Sims that I almost can’t keep up with it. My selections are really aiming at the best stuff right now, so I hope you all enjoy. Also, I’m sorry about those bad tags whether it’s for The Sims 2 or The Sims 3. I’m doing the updates usually at night when I’m pretty tired and that just happens sometimes…

My game is not working again. I’m sure you remember that it was lagging really bad. Well, when I solved that, it has started to crash. It happens about every 30 minutes, which is not that bad, but I also have trouble with saving. I almost always get Error 12 and the game can’t be saved (even as a new world). Honestly, I don’t know what to do. Reinstall? Again? It’s depressing. I was so excited for Pets, but I only created one cat in the game and that’s all I’ve tried so far.

So right now I’m taking some rest from Simming. It might be for the best, though–I really need to finish revising my novel. Maybe when I have more time during the Holidays, I will reinstall.

P.S.: I tried it with no custom content and yes, it still crashes. I’m playing Sunset Valley, not Appalosa Plains (I haven’t even tried that world), and I have the world maps updated.

I wish I could say I’ve been more “around” when the new computer era has started, but for that I’m too young. I can still clearly picture the first iMacs, though, so pretty and colorful, made in 1997. The day I saw them I knew there was something magical about them and that behind their pretty face, there was a good heart. I was definitely Apple-stuck for good.

I woke up this morning early to go to my doctor when my parter called me to make sure everything’s okay. Then he told me Steve Jobs has passed away earlier that day. His voice was so low and I was pretty sure something terrible has happened. And the truth is, this is pretty terrible. The world has lost a visionare, an inventor, a great successful leader that changed the way we use computers, mobile phones, tablets and MP3 players.

Perhaps I can’t say I’m the most excellent Apple fan out there. I’ve never owned a Mac, because I’ve never found that much money in my pocket, but I do have a small family of iPods, which I love. Four years ago I wrote about them passionately as an editor at a local Apple weblog. Sometimes I think I still miss this job, because to me, iPod has always meant something special (as stupid as it can seem to many, because it’s just a “thing”).

Rest in peace, Steve Jobs.

Agyness Crumplebottom is one scary Sim to many. Especially when she tells the ghost stories after dark, but now she has a good reason and it’s not because she’s just scary, but because she has someone to tell them to.

She wanted to live a new life after the death of her husband, but it was nearly impossible until she finally decided to bring him back.

She joined the investigator career with a lot of taunting from her friends. How could she even imagine doing such a job? She’s been home all these years, alone and with nothing better to do than watching the sun fall down behind the ocean from the terrace of her mid-century house.

The answer was simple: she desired to have her husband back and meant to find a way to do it. It wasn’t an easy task. Her blonde hair was turning silver with days and nights trying to find a Death Fish. And how about Ambrosia, the food of Gods and Life, could it be real?

It was. She cooked the meal with the earnest despair and when it was done, she almost fainted from exhaustion. Then the ghost came at night and ate the wonderful dish. She looked at him, changing from dead into human, but then ran away as if they never met before.

Agyness was lonely again.

It was until the day a small boy came to her door and said: “I’m looking for my mum. Do you know where I can find her?”

She knew very well.

He came in and lived with her like the son she wanted all those years and like the husband she yearned ever since he left her in this pointless world where the sun only sets and never rises. But that night it rose high with the moon and suddenly, there was a lot of light in her old house.

She kissed her son good night and closed her eyes, worried he might disappear when she opens them again.

But in the morning, he was still there just as she left him.

With all that pretty stuff around him, he just wanted to know if he could be the next prince of Sunset Valley…

… but it seemed unlikely. A prince can’t rule the kingdom alone. He needs a princess.

So, who was that beautiful Bella anyway?

There was no time to lose. Thomas knew a Prince Charming never hasitates…

UPDATE: Okay, I’m glad I didn’t totally fret this time and used my head and actually googled this error. Here you’ll find the solution. You will only need to delete three catche files.

Phew! Off to Sim now.

Lauren has emailed me recently that she’s moving on to next level: she needs an editor and then wants to put her books in print. Unfortunatelly, publishing isn’t cheap, especially if you self-publish. That’s why she’s seeking help on Kickstarter and wants to raise money to meet her goals.

I’ve always believed in helping and funding personal projects. Although money isn’t everything, it can be a big help in many cases and it doesn’t matter if you donate $1 or $100–it’s still a big help! If you can, consider helping this young lady. I’m sure the money will be well spent.

S4S: Lauren, can you tell us what do you like the most about the Sims?

Lauren: I think my biggest fave of The Sims 3 games was that they have more characteristics than The Sims 2 did — I like how you can make “twins” and have one who is an angel, and then the evil twin! I also like the fact that in The Sims 3 everything else in your neighborhood is still going on around you, which I think is cool. One thing I definitely can’t wait for is The Sims 3 Pets!!! I need a Dalmatian to complete my family!

S4S: How has the game helped you with your writing?

Lauren: The actual Sims 3 game itself hasn’t helped me because I write fantasy fiction and since it’s more every day life, when I played The Sims Medieval, that helped me more with remembering how for example, men courted women, or the rules of royalty and each position there was beneath the king. Not only that, but the characteristics and the one “fatal flaw” each character has, because it is completely true when crafting a novel such as this! Each character is always bound by some type of deep, inner battle or perhaps the entire book is based from their struggle, needless to say, everyone has their own inner flaws.

S4S: When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

Lauren: I wanted to be a writer since I was about eleven — at that time, I wrote my first trilogy all over 250 pages, yet when I finished it all at 13 years old, it didn’t quite flow as well as I had thought. From then on I wrote more stories just trying to get better, and finally ended up with 9 books. Out of those I only published my two favorites.

S4S: 9 books, now that a big number and a great amount of time you needed to get them written… Tell us something about the two books you’ve published.

Lauren: The two books I have published on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, the first Alexander: Vanquish the Night and Corruption are both fantasy fiction novels. The first one is a fantasy spinoff of the old story of Dracula and my epic version of how vampires had really come to be, meaning they had to  be around sometime in the middle ages before they became thee domestic citizens we see in Twilight ha-ha! It is very adventurous, epic fantasy in a 3 part book — this one is my dad’s absolute favorite and definitely number one on my list.

The second, Corruption, is another epic fantasy novel based on the extreme betrayal of those in power — not too complicated, keep in mind I write for young adults and general adults! However, it is about a true chivalrous knight who is suddenly betrayed by the king and guard captain when they brutally murder his wife — the rest of the book is his journey to seek justice. I wrote this, with the basic understanding of today’s world – lately I feel there is a lot of backstabbing, betrayal, deceit, and justice trying to be done and this stories is the embodiment of where the betrayal can get you, and what it also means to have true friends.

S4S: I think Alexander could be quite a hit considering vamps are very “in” these days. Buit which of your characters would you like to be for one day?

Lauren: A character I would like to be for a day… I think I would want to be Constantine from Alexander because he’s my favorite secondary male character — probably the bravest and boldest male I have ever created, he’s that dangerous, dark type which is very exciting.

I’m all crazy about Sunset Valley again. Mostly I’m just switching from one family to another in attempt to try something new, give the Sims some good makeovers and remodel their houses.

I’ve played for Christopher Steel before. He’s a cute guy, but he’s a little strange. His lifetime wish is to have 13 types of Perfect fish in the aqauarium (accomplished!). His traits are Angler, Friendly, Good Kisser, Brave and Loves the Outdoors (I changed the last one from the Natural Cook because I already have too many cooks in the ‘hood).

When I played for Christopher for the first time, I wasn’t really keen on his cooking profession. And I know he could do just fine fishing, but I embraced his Brave trait and made him a fireman. Then I fell in love with him. I think this career really suits him.

Christopher’s social life is a little uninteresting, but his house has always looked very odd. The siding was painted in a very bad shade of pastel blue and the interior was very, very boring. Which is not a bad thing, it’s just that EA Games never knows how to make boring a little less boring… They tried to mismatch a few things around, but the overal  look was quite fussy. So I fixed it a bit. I kept some furniture mismatched, changed things around but also kept a lot of stuff just how it was… well, see what it looks like now yourself. Nothing fancy, but I like it better.

The house has finally a normal color and I changed the roof and windows to create more contrast. I made the mailbox crazy blue just to keep that strange mismatched feel that Christopher seems to like.

Since he’s an angler and a fireman, I like to keep some things around that make it easy to recognize his hobbies.

Christopher likes to play hopscotch with his friends in the park. This is Pauline Wan who lives near the beach. I gave her a makeover (this is a “before” picture) and she looks really great now.

But Pauline mostly fails with the game and Christopher is always distracted with something, usually by his phone or bladder.

Good hamburgers save the day. He’s a very manly man, right?

Sometimes he likes to sleep at the Langraab’s Science Facility. Don’t you just love using sleeping bags all around the town?

All I feel like now is to play the game and clean up my downloads folder. That’s my plan. Happy Simming!

Of course, I didn’t want to make it the simple way like “click this link and buy this book, because this girl plays the Sims games”, but I thought of giving it a little more depth. I came up with the idea of making small “Chit-chat” posts with the Sims fans who have something to show (remember the old interviews with custom content artists?).

So, these will be quick 5-6 question interviews on how you play the Sims and a little show-off of your art / business / special hobby etc. Yes, everyone can participate. If you’re a regular visitor of Spring4Sims, I’m sure you know I’ve been doing donation drives for the past couple of years except this one. I’ve decided I should pay the hosting myself, because The Sims and this site is still my personal hobby which should be on my expenses. I’m not against donating and even if you still consider doing so, I’m very grateful, because this site still does take a lot of time to update and of course, the hosting is not free.

I used to have this dream of perfect SimCity. It would be the place where everything was in one place: nice town venues, some mid-century houses, modern lots with tech gadgets, luxury and glamorous houses, there would be the nice places like waterfalls, green plains and the perfect beach. There would also be some nice cute and cozy lots for single Sims. They all could meet at bars, night clubs and dance clubs, all for both rich and poor, because there would be the right place to suit everyone.

It was only recently when I finally realized I can’t have it all. It just doesn’t work this way. First of all, creating a new world is–at least for me–impossible because I know I’ll never have that much time to make it perfect. Second of all, I lack the skill of perfect architect and decorator. Also, it’s good to keep in mind that worlds created by EA Games are always set for one particular theme: Sunset Valley is all about nice atmosphere and families, Riverview is more country-based, Brookville is all about mystery and Bridgeport is great for going out. Mixing all of this could be fun, but very time-consuming.

Took me a long time to finally understand it’s not a bad thing. Now I can actually enjoy playing more worlds and there will always be something new to do (although I’m mostly just stuck to Sunset Valley and Bridgeport because I like them the most. In fact, I don’t play the other worlds at all).

It’s like the perfect reunion of cutness : there’s the bunny, Plum & Bob, the pink flamingo and the gnome is in the waves swimming. I love this postcard!

BTW any idea why the HTML “title” tag states “Hello_Kitty_card”? Now that’s very interesting.

I think sometimes when you’re trying to fix a bug very hard, it just doesn’t work. Sometimes you just have to wait until it works itself out.

Now I’m going to get my old Sims and households back to where they’ve been. I saved a few lots with my favorite guys and gals that made a huge progress in their life, so I didn’t lose everything. I hope I’m lucky this time.

I’m just still not very sure when I’m going to do all that Simming I want to. I’m quite busy these days in real life, but I plan to take a week of this summer and I think I know how I’m going use that time!

When I stopped using custom content, I remember it was a huge shock for me, because the game felt so empty. It’s true that it’s quite simple right now, but it made me realize how much good in-game content there actually is. EA has been adding a lot of quality objects in the latest EPs and SPs, have you noticed?

Also, the game runs much smoother right now. Even though I used to merge all my .Sims3Packs, there’s a big difference. The same thing goes for loading time–it’s much quicker!

What sucks is that sometimes I would like to make things even better in my game. That’s what you can’t do without custom content: it gives you many more options when decorating lots for all kinds of Sims. The freedom that custom content gives you is simply amazing.

The good thing is that now I recolor a lot more than before. I’ve never realized I could use this or that object with new texture and make it look that great. It’s like magic!

I hope to download some CC this weekend and prepare for Generations. Although I loved my game “naked and bare”, I still much prefer it with more options that custom content gives me.

Caroline Custard is just another pre-made Sim from Bridgeport. I think she’s fun to play with because she’s a journalist and her bio says she comes from a small town. I thought great, another spoilt Sim in the SimCity, this is the best what you can get, right?

I think I was quite right. Well, I had to give her a makeover and re-decorate her apartment, because both these things are always bugging me. Now that she looks great–and she’s really pretty, I made her a professional slut journalist with 11 lovers. But she’s not a bad girl. She just like to have many different man around. I guess. And just in case you’re worried about her, I have already chosen her true love. She just have to get there. I’m sure she will–it’s just going to take a little time…

She has become a huge celebrity of Bridgeport mainly because she likes to interview everyone and writes articles and sometimes even a cheesy romance novels. I think it suits her personality because she tries to be such a diva. I can’t really say she hasn’t worked hard for it, though–she’s writing all days long and makes a lot of public appearences, too. She also hangs out with a lot of Sims and makes them smile. Yeah, that’s our Caroline.

The before pictures. She really did look like a small town girl, didn’t she? Even the furniture was so… yuck. But I taught her better.

This was the living room and kitchen. Plain, boring and with the worst colors.

And here are some after pictures. Her favorite color is that awesome spicy shade of purple, so I enjoyed using it all around.

Caroline likes to write on the kitchen counter, especially when she has the laptop in her inventory. I made made her laptop a home computer now so she’s finally writing at her desk.

The view is amazing, isn’t it? I’m sure she gets a lot of inspiration just looking out of the window.

I left the kitchen tiles as they were before and somehow I managed to make them fit very well.

Little peek at the living room. It’s very simple and clean but I love it. It looks modern, finally and not so country-styled as before.

Just don’t ask me how I managed to put a fireplace in the apartment. It’s just another mystery of SimCity I guess.

I think the kitchen look especially well with the wine racks. And the living sofa is my favorite. What a perfect shape!

The endtables are still uncluttered, but I love the wall lamps with aqua blue light. The rug with newspaper pattern and the paintings give the bedroom a modern touch.

I put the drawer with vintage mirror and a wall lamp on the other site of the bedroom. It looks like vanity table now, especially with the baroque armchair.

Some clothes on the rack make it a little more modern again. I really like it!

And the view on the bridge is marvelous!

The bathroom looks still a little dull, though. I have to work on it more to get it completely done.

When Caroline needs to have some fun, she likes to dance the night away! I really like to watch her dance. I don’t know why.

And here are the four of eleven of Caroline’s lovers. Oh well. Armstrong Diesel, below, is like singing “I-slept-with-ce-leb-rity-I-slept-with-ce-leb-rity-I-slept-with-ce-leb-rity-I-slept-with-ce-leb-rity”. (It’s actually a moodlet that Sims get when they WooHoo at somebody else’s place.)

This guy is a five-star celeb and Caroline already knows him in the game. He’s an actor and he’s incredibly handsome. His name is Matthew Hamming. I have a crush on him. And I don’t feel ashamed.

Richie Striker, what a sweetheart, also couldn’t resist Caroline’s charm. He’s a bad boy, let me tell you. He’s already married!

And last but not least, Davin Ashton caught in his pink underwear! What else could we ask for in the last picture?

In my last attemt to visit Egypt from Sunset Valley, I had to reinstall the game for about three times. First because I wanted it to work and not freeze when I enter the location and then to make it run, because something went terribly wrong and the game was broken. There is always some trouble with the Sims game, I can’t even remember what it was this time because I was obviously so pissed (yeah, sorry) that it screwed my memory.

The last time I checked Egypt from Sunset Valley, I think the game froze just like it used to before reinstalling it. So I gave up and started playing for Bridgeport instead of Sunset Valley, which I still love at the bottom of my heart, but I’m feeling rather anxious about starting all over again and bringing all my old families back to where I left them…

So, another household after my dear WooHoo Warriors I’ve decided to play for in Bridgeport is the Jones family. Johnny and Diana Jones are a nice couple. I don’t remember what are their professions, but who cares. (I think he’s in politics and she’s a doctor… not sure, though.) I went to Egypt with them. Yay! Finally! Right now in the real world it’s probably not the safest travel destination, but everything is still very peaceful in the Egypt of our Sims. Well, except some Mummy invasions and a few snakes that could possibly bite you if you don’t play the right song for them.

I think the Jones are the perfect couple to go to Egypt. First of all, they have the perfect surname. Seriously, it’s like Indiana Jones but better. Also, they look perfect in their new travel attire, don’t you think? I fell in lovewith them completely when they strated to wear it. They already have a babygirl, but she couldn’t travel with them. Remember? This is an adventerous honeymoon and nothing for babies.

Okay, enough of rambling, here are some pictures I have taken from their last trip!

Diana has been enjoying exploring the catacombs a lot. It’s a lot of fun. And I love her expression on the face when she enters a new room. She’s like: Wow, this skeleton is totally cute! Can I bring it home?

Now I’m not exactly sure what’s been going on here, but I think that Diana has decided to visit one of the houses in the ‘hood and fell asleep on the floor. I think it looks more as if she’s been kidnapped and knocked out.

In addition to a lot of administrative chaos, I’m now faced with a big financial problem which only YOU can solve (yes you…). The second bug is an elevator bug. When my Sim wants to go to work, she will get stuck in the elevator and won’t go to the ground floor. I have to teleport her to work. Then, when she gets home again, she can’t open the elevator’s door on the ground floor because it’s still open on the upper floor. I have to delete both the elevators (basically one, you know what I mean) and put them back. Eventually it starts all over again.

EDIT: Seems like I solved that elevator bug. It was actually a big flower vase that was in my Sim’s way to get on the ground floor… she just didn’t say that properly. Okay, one thing solved.

Anyone else experiencing the same bugs?

I’ve been playing for WooHoo Warriors and their stereo broke down. So I called the repairman (actually the repair woman–does that word even exist?) to fix it and and… uhm… the electric shock killed her. Yes, they had a dead corpse in their apartment, eww. I mean: poor girl!

The Death came along to pick her up. WooHoo Wariors: Oh no, look she’s dead!

Mark & Fresco: D’you see that?!

Basil doesn’t seem to be amused.

Then the poor repair woman started to plead for her life. Doesn’t work that way, sorry, honey.

The only thing Death seemed to worry about was the stereo, though. She couldn’t turn on the music to make the whole experience more dramatic.

Fresco has decided to have a little chit-chat with Death. It’s always good to be friends with her, right?

The only problem for WooHoo Warriors was the stereo again. The other repairman didn’t like to fix it very much, but luckily, he stayed out of trouble and alive.

This cannot be downloaded, but I sincerely love this makeover! It’s so inspiring and makes me want to play Sunset Valley again. You can find more pictures at Six AM Sims.

Recently I’ve started playing with one of the households in Bridgeport named the Arts Central. It’s basically two guys and one girl: Harry Marks, Alexy Fresco and Matilda Smart. I fell in love with them. And they fell in love with each other–literally! Well, I thought why not? They seemed like the perfect folks who’d like to WooHoo with each other all the time. Or most of the time. Okay, let’s not talk about that anymore.

Just one thing: I think they were ment to be together and do what they like to do (hint hint, right now I’m not talking about being in the band). When their band was created, the game suggested a name WooHoo Warriors. I was laughing so hard! It couldn’t be any better!

The first thing I did for this household was giving the Sims appropriate makeovers and refurnished their home. As you can see, Harry has no more that funny mustache but rather a nice stubble. He wished for that tattoo, not me.

Matilda with her neighbor and now a new roomate, Basil Jackson. I made him move in and join the band. He plays the keyboard now. As you can see, Matilda wanted to WooHoo with him but he was having a terrible headache. Poor Matilda.

The best ibuprofen that Matilda could give him, though, was her new underwear. I think that explains a lot.

There are some nice neon lights, vinyl carpet, old coffee table and mismatched sofas.

The kitchen is in neon pink color and the walls are in aqua. I made their *cough* special *cough* bedroom fully visible with the big aquarium. Thought it was a cool feature for their apartment.

I’m sure WooHoo Warriors love this bed.

… but perhaps they like to watch when there’s something interesting going on inside of it. Yes, that’s where the aquarium plays the major role.

BTW I’m not using any custom content right now. It sucks. But I was pretty surprised how much good content has Maxis brought with the past expansion packs.
